The total number of businesses and companies registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has exceeded 12.5 million, according to official data presented in the National Assembly, as reported by Express News.
Over the last three years, registered business taxpayers have grown by 5.3 million, reflecting a significant increase in participation within the formal tax network. This rise is attributed to the government’s continued tax reforms and initiatives promoting digital registration.
Among the registered entities, Punjab leads with around 8.2 million registrations. Sindh follows with 2.876 million, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has 818,000. In Islamabad, the count stands at 467,000, and Balochistan accounts for 221,000.
These statistics highlight a positive shift toward formalizing the economy, aligning with the government’s broader objective of expanding the tax base and enhancing documentation across sectors.
