The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has missed its tax collection target by more than Rs600 billion during the first eight months of the 2024-25 fiscal year.
An FBR senior official reported that between July and February FY25, the board collected Rs7.34 trillion, falling short of the Rs7.94 trillion target, leaving a deficit of Rs601 billion.
In February 2025 alone, the FBR collected Rs850 billion, missing the target of Rs983 billion, resulting in a shortfall of Rs133 billion.
Notably, by the end of the first seven months of FY25, the tax shortfall had already reached Rs468 billion. The primary reason behind this gap is the slower-than-expected growth in revenue collection, which was foreseen during the 2024-25 budget planning.
